A skid loader, often referred to as a skid steel roader is basically a very small frame that is highly rigid and is powered by a high power machine that has lift arms and its primary work is to reduce the manual labor by attaching various tools as well as attachments. More often than not, a skid loader is a four wheel drive and the wheels on the left hand side are independent of the wheels on the right hand side. However, there are some skid steel loaders that have tracks instead of wheels. The advantage of having one skid steel loader that has four wheel drives is that since the wheels on both the sides are independent of the other, the direction in which the wheels turn as well as the wheel speed will be the determining factors as to the direction the loader will turn.
Another huge advantage of one of these skid steel loaders is that unlike most other loading machines, it is capable of zero radius, pirouette turning and the advantage that this gives the driver of the skid loader is maneuverability apart from providing a highly agile yet compact loader for many a different application. The difference with conventional loaders not only ends there. The arms of the lift in these machines are placed alongside the driver and these are attached to the vehicle at a point which is known as the pivot point, just behind the shoulders of the driver. However, in the beginning, this was one of the main reasons why skid steel loaders were considered to be highly unstable and unsafe because of the proximity that the moving arms share with the driver. But modern technology has made it possible to create secure casings for the drivers as well as plenty of other safety features. Like the conventional front loaders, it can perform similar functions such as carrying material from one point to another, carry heavy material in the open bucket on the front as well as load heavy duty material into a truck or such other things.
In colder regions, where it snows very heavily, one of the things that a skid loader is used for is to remove the accumulated snow on the ground and in such cases, the track tires are perfect.
